DYBSC Position on Registration.
The Dang Yankee Boykin Spaniel Club (DYBSC) would like to clearly define its position on the registration of the Boykin
Spaniel. The DYBSC fully supports the Boykin Spaniel Society as the official registry of the Boykin Spaniel. We feel that the
recent recognition of the Boykin Spaniel by the American Kennel Club could prove to be detrimental to the breed. The AKC’s
focus on showing dogs on the bench has led to a division of many breeds into bench-bred and field-bred lines. The
specific breeding for bench-bred traits and appearance will provide no benefit to the breed and is in direct opposition to the
original intention of the Boykin Spaniel.
The Boykin Spaniel society has demonstrated an exemplary dedication to the breed and its advancement as seen through
their decision to create the Boykin Spaniel Foundation, which promotes and assists in the health of the breed and in their
continuing support of the Boykin Spaniel Rescue. It is the DYBSC’s opinion that the BSS has, and will always have the best
interest of the breed as its focus.
For their years of hard work and effort we ask that all DYBSC members and Boykin Spaniel enthusiasts continue to support
the Boykin Spaniel Society and its efforts to preserve the dogs we love so much.
